I’m Not a Douchebag, I’m a Hipster.
Au contraire, weirdo.
All too often overlooked as douchebags in the traditional sense of the term, the hipsters-as-douchebags argument is gaining momentum in mainstream society. Which is perhaps reason enough for hipsters everywhere to reject it outright.
The truth is, hipsters are every bit as douchey and pretentious as the douchebags to whom they condescend.
Defined by the Hipster Handbook, a hipster is “one who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed as being cool by the cool. The hipster walks among the masses in daily life, but is not a part of them and must shun or reduce to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream. A hipster ideally possesses no more than 2% body fat.”
Urban Dictionary: “Though early women evolved to prefer muscular, athletic, confident, secure men, hipsters are convinced that men who try to achieve these characteristics and their female admirers are doing so because they lack the intellectual capacity to realize that pale, sickly men with a smug attitude make the best partners.”
Still not convinced? A quick perusal of this post from CavemanCircus might do the trick.
